There is a passage King Jeongjo recites in the Korean film The Fatal Encounter (2014). It comes from the Doctrine of the Mean (中庸), Chapter 23.
Do not neglect small things. Give them your full effort, and sincerity follows. Sincerity seeps outward, becomes visible, then radiant. Radiance moves others. Moved, they change. Changed, they grow. Only those who commit wholly to sincerity can transform themselves and the world.
The same principle applies to how we work.
When someone listens to a colleague all the way through, honest conversations become more frequent. When someone owns their mistake first, others stop hiding theirs. When someone follows up on a task they could have let slide, gaps close. Stack enough of these moments and they become the team’s baseline.
Team quality and product quality are both decided in these small moments.
